DevLog#1: Welcome to "GLADE"

Hey guys, a couple of month ago I met RJGA during a jam.

Together (with the help of talented beginners) we shipped 2 unfinished games for 2 jams. Working with him taught me a lot and I thought I’d share my dream a making my own studio. Long story short, he agreed to follow me on this path and we have been working on our first game together ever since.

Welcome to “Arix Studios”, we are working on a metroidvania game that was inspired by the movement and storytelling of “Ori and the Will of the wisp” and “Hollow Knight”. The artstyle we chose changed multiple times over the last month. Because we weren’t sure what the game would be and I was still struggling with consistency, we finally settled on 2D pixel art, I chose a higher rez than usually because I wanted to allow the art to show a lot of texture. To still feel lo-fi, as most pixel art games feel, I still decided to allow a lot of rendering but with a limited range of collors, blocking out shape and light as if it was cell-shaded. Along with this limitation, I also decided I’d limit myself when blocking out shapes: The high pixel resolution allows a lot of details, but for the sake of feedback/readability and ease of production, I thought that focusing on simple shapes without outlines would work.

Let’s see how this goes when we get our first version of the game with the assets and let’s hope it works well!
